5 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR DEVICE WORK SMOOTHLY
Don't settle for slower startup speeds and sluggish programs just because your computer isn't brand new. These 5 tips will keep your Windows computer running smoothly, just like on day one.
Everyone appreciates having a brand new computer. Why? Because
when you turn it on and launch any apps or programs, they respond quickly.
The good news is that your Windows 10 PC doesn't have to be
sluggish. By following a few simple steps, you should be able to keep your
computer looking like new for a long time. Here are the top 5 practices that I put
in place to preserve the performance of my computer.
Free up disk space
If your computer's hard drive is almost full, you will surely
notice that each task is running slowly because resources are dwindling.
Windows 10 has a really efficient built-in app that allows you to easily clean
that hard drive.
Click the button Start menu, scroll to the bottom to find Administrative
Tools Windows and select Disk Cleanup. Follow the instructions to delete junk
files, which will free up space immediately.
Uninstall apps you no longer use
It's like sorting through your closet: get rid of what you
haven't used in a year.
In Windows 10, start by opening Control Panel then find Programs
and select Uninstall a program. This sorting can have a huge positive impact on
your computer's speed, since these programs sometimes include background
processes, auto start entries, and fairly resource-intensive system services.
Uninstalling unused apps will also improve system security.
Applications like Java for example, whose earlier versions are known to present
security risks, not only use system resources, but also leave the door open for
hackers.
Remove apps that consume too many resources
Your computer may be slow because one or more applications are
consuming more resources than necessary. For example, an application could
experience a memory leak and use up a large portion of the memory,
significantly slowing down your computer's performance.
To find out which apps are potentially problematic, open Task
Manager. Click the Processor, Memory, and Disk headers to sort the list items
according to the resources used so that the applications consuming the most
resources appear first in the list.
If an application is using an excessive amount of system
resources, you can close it. If it does not close on its own, select it and
click Close Application to force shutdown.
You can also prevent these applications from automatically
launching when your computer starts up.
Click on Start and turn off the apps you don't need to have at
hand every time you log in. Windows tells you which applications slow down the
startup process the most, so you can make an informed choice.
Make sure your antivirus doesn't slow down your system
How does your antivirus program impact your computer's system
performance? As mentioned earlier, you want to avoid apps that slow down your
computer by consuming too much resources.
Unfortunately, compared to free or premium offerings from
security companies, Windows 10's default security software can significantly
affect your computer's performance. When Windows 10 starts up, Windows Defender
automatically activates if an incompatible antivirus program is detected or if
no antivirus is detected at all. Windows also recommends that users uninstall
their active antivirus to enable Windows Defender instead.
So, to make your computer run properly without slowing it use
the best antivirus
software that also fights with threats and keep your device safe.
But beware of the safety instructions coming from your
computer's operating system.
These suggestions may seem more appropriate at the time, but
you may face less protection. And in reality, downloading third-party security
software doesn't take that long, and it can give you not only better protection
but also better performance.
There are many other possibilities available to you, it is in
your best interest to explore them.
We advise you to:
1. Check the scores of the antivirus software that interests
you in the tests of organizations.
2. Understand the features provided and included in the
product,
3. Compare prices.
Reset your computer
Newer versions of Windows, like Windows 10, simplify the reset
process and give your computer a new boost.
To reset Windows, all you need to do is type Reset your PC in
the Windows search box. This functionality is built-in and is equivalent to
reinstalling Windows.
It will erase the programs and system settings installed on
your computer but keep the files in their place. (Make sure you've selected the
correct option: Keep my files.)
You now know the top 5 tips that I use (and repeat if
necessary) to keep my Windows 10 computer at its best. If you have any
additional tips, please share them in the comments section below. I would love
to read them and try them out for myself.
